Internal Audit Awards 2027: celebrate success

AI, quantum computing, sanctions, tariffs, war, inflation, climate change – the world is changing and innovative internal audit has never been more important. The profession is under pressure to transform and accelerate what it does and keep pace with evolving organisational needs.

The going is tough, but this is an exciting and a rewarding time to be an internal auditor.

We want to highlight the best and most inspirational internal audit teams out there. Everyone is being asked to achieve more, faster, more efficiently, so we know there are stories to be told.

Don’t be shy. Nominate for the Chartered IIA’s Internal Audit Awards today and celebrate what you and your team have achieved.

The Internal Audit Awards are the only awards dedicated to internal audit professionals and the work of internal audit teams. Winners and those who make the shortlist gain the recognition of their peers and fellow professionals in every sector across the UK and Ireland.

If your team has transformed, achieved exceptional results, made a significant impact on a major organisational project or come up with findings that enabled management to seize new opportunities, tell us about it.

What’s in it for you?

Being shortlisted and winning an award are an amazing tribute to hard-working, talented individuals and teams. But the rewards go further than a well-earned slap on the back.

Past winners have spoken of the recognition they gained from being endorsed as excellent by their professional institute. They believed it enhanced their reputation internally and externally with multiple stakeholders. It also increased the confidence of team members and reinforced their courage and determination to make further improvements.

Some found that it attracted people to join their teams. Others said that simply brainstorming about their achievements and writing the nomination form made them prouder of what they had achieved.

Support and endorsements from senior management and the chair of the Audit Committee enhanced awareness of their success and pride in their work.

For the wider profession, the awards share best practice and innovations, helping others to develop faster without re-inventing the wheel.

At the annual event, teams connect, make new contacts and share their experiences (while also having a splendid evening). Their stories will be written up as case studies and published on the Chartered IIA website and they will be given winners’ logos to run on their websites, emails and social media.

What to do now

Entering the awards is straightforward, but nominators should read the criteria and 11 categories now to identify where they will need external input, such as endorsements, and what evidence they should gather. These may take time to collect.

Wordcounts in each section are limited to reduce workload and keep nominators focused on their key messages. Writing concise, meaningful reports is an essential part of the internal audit role, so this is important for the judges.

In addition to a clear narrative, judges will also look for evidence of impact/results and of value added to the organisation. Endorsements are a vital element and finding the best people to provide these is essential to a good nomination.

More information, categories and criteria are available on our website together with the awards nomination form.
