Listening Fundamentals

On-demand

This on-demand course aims to provide a brief introduction to PACT learning styles, focusing on how chief audit executives might use it to support their communication with stakeholders.

At senior levels, communication failure may come from misaligned listening preferences: one person wants evidence; another wants action; another wants brevity; another wants human impact.

Kittie Watson, Larry Barker, and James Weaver developed the PACT listening styles in the nineties to explain how individuals differ in the way they attend to, process and respond to spoken information.

Course overview

After completing this course you will be able to:

  • Briefly describe the four PACT listening styles (People, Action, Content, Time)
  • Adjust how you communicate to match another person’s listening preference.

You have 24 weeks to complete the course; however, it shouldn’t take you more than 20 minutes to do so.

The course is online so you will need access to an internet-enabled device. The material is responsive and will display well on most devices.

All the material is written.
