Building Trust and Value Through Internal Audit: Talent, Fraud and CEO Insight

John Marsden is Head of Business Development at Cifas. Cifas is a not-for-profit membership organisation devoted to stopping financial crime, with over 800 members across the UK, including Banks, Insurers, Telecoms, Public Sector and all areas of finance.  For over 30 years John has been at the leading edge of commerce, helping clients to navigate the risks and customer experience challenges involved in safely transacting with customers. From the early days, specialising in Merchant Acquiring, then through Credit Reference Agencies and digital fraud prevention, the theme of leveraging data assets and systems to confirm Identity and manage fraud risks remains the prevailing theme. John continues the career theme with Cifas.

John's expertise stemming from the years of experience with Barclaycard, Experian, Equifax, iovation and Cifas has covered Identity, Fraud Prevention, anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing efforts. In a world where the internet is the playground for nefarious actors to gain finance and facility John's knowledge and understanding has been crucial to client’s projects and process success.

After six years as an external auditor, I transitioned from accountancy to internal audit and have spent the subsequent 31 years working firstly in the private sector for professional services firms, as a supplier of outsourced internal audit, and then as an in-house head of internal audit in the public sector/central government. I found internal audit by chance but realised quickly how fascinating, challenging, stretching and rewarding it is. I have been an IIA Wales Committee member since 2015 and really value the network of internal auditors in my region; as an auditor, I never stop learning and this network provides great opportunities to collaborate, engage, learn and develop while allowing me to make a contribution to my profession.

Will Moulder is Chief Executive Officer of Admiral Insurance (Gibraltar) Limited and has spent more than 20 years working in insurance, finance and business leadership across the UK and Africa. His career has spanned audit, financial management, strategy and M&A including senior roles at Prudential plc and Admiral. Having previously served as CFO of both Admiral Insurance Gibraltar and Prudential Africa, Will brings a broad perspective on governance, risk and organisational decision-making. He is passionate about creating sustainable, well-governed businesses and believes internal audit plays a critical role in helping organisations navigate an increasingly complex risk landscape.
