This course explores the difference between hearing and listening, introduces the HURIER listening model and PACT communication model, and provides practical techniques for managing conversations, overcoming listening barriers, and adapting your approach to different audiences in both face-to-face and virtual settings.
The course expands on the Listening Fundamentals course.
You have 24 weeks to complete the course; however, it shouldn’t take you more than one hour to do so.
Course overview
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Distinguish between hearing and listening and explain why effective listening is important.
- Describe the stages of the HURIER model and apply them in professional conversations.
- Identify common barriers to effective listening, including mental and environmental distractions.
- Apply active listening techniques such as paraphrasing, summarising, echoing, and clarifying.
- Use the PACT model to adapt communication and listening approaches to different individuals and groups.
- Manage conversations effectively by interrupting appropriately, redirecting discussions, and maintaining engagement.
The course comprises one module and a quiz. After you have completed these two components, you will be able to download your certificate of completion.
