Why we’re here
Our purpose is to champion and lead the internal audit profession. In doing so, we seek to guide the internal audit community through an ever-changing business landscape, support its efforts with guidance and learning, and highlight its impact and importance to everyone.
We do this for the benefit of our members, organisations and society. It’s something we take very seriously.
We are the only professional body dedicated exclusively to promoting the vital work of internal audit professionals in the UK and Ireland.
We are the only internal audit organisation in the world with a Royal Charter and therefore the authority to award chartered status.
What we work hard to do
We have four strategic pillars guiding our mission to be the best resource for internal auditing and those who work within the industry.
They’re bound up in our purpose and our reason to be here.
Nurturing talent
We create an environment where talent is supported and promoted through championing contributions and offering specialised learning programs that recognise achievements.
Our certifications and designations provide a clear career path and make you a sought-after employee. We're here to help you grow and succeed.
Leading in learning
We’re known as the leading authority for learning and knowledge sharing - making sure you keep up with fast-paced changes and challenges, providing insights and knowledge to deal with now and plan for the future.
We create content and collaborate with strategic partners so everything is curated to your needs, answers your questions, and enlightens you on topics that aren’t on your radar.
Everything we do is designed to help you advance in your internal auditing career.
Championing internal auditing
We’re your voice. Your advocate and ally. We beat the drum to remind businesses and society how vital internal auditing is.
We raise the industry profile with the stakeholders who have a say so we can get a seat at the table.
We push to make internal auditing an integral part of governance structures and mandate that it should always comply with Global Internal Audit Standards and related Codes of Practice.
We do this to promote the profession and the essential work you do.
A long-lasting partnership
We have the right infrastructure, both technically and financially, and the best resources and people behind us to support our members at the level they expect.
And we offer stakeholders the opportunity to collaborate, inspiring each other to make this industry the best it can be.
It’s all part of offering the highest standard of service.
We strive to achieve our Purpose by pursuing the following strategic objectives.
Develop our members
Our vision is that members have access to a sufficient number of high-quality programmes to develop their skills and competencies to be the best internal auditors for the future. This means we have routes for people regardless of their past experience and knowledge, and for those already certified we will provide guidance and training to help them develop their skills and knowledge even further.
Support our members
We want to facilitate networking opportunities for our members to learn from, and where they can be challenged and supported by each other. We will do this by holding events of various sizes and formats that cover relevant topics, provoke thought and innovation, and tackle the difficult issues. We will also provide an excellent EQA service that does not compromise on quality.
Advocate for our members
We want stakeholders such as audit committees, c-suite roles, regulators, policy makers and the public to better understand and appreciate the benefits and impact that the internal audit profession can bring to the success of organisations and society. This is more than just averting disasters, but about helping organisations to grow. We also want to increase awareness of the career opportunities in internal audit to ensure there is a pipeline of good candidates wanting to join the profession.
Resilience
We need the Chartered IIA to have the resources to be able to deliver for our members. This is done by putting our members at the heart of what we do, managing our finances prudently, and investing in our staff.
