Use of this website
Please read this carefully as it affects your legal rights and sets out the terms and conditions on which we, The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors - UK and Ireland ("We"), will allow you to use this website and the information contained within it. The Web Site is offered to you conditional on your agreement with these terms and conditions and your continued use of it signifies agreement with them in their entirety and without modification.

We reserve the right to change the terms and conditions under which the website is offered at any time. Any such change in terms and conditions will be effective once reflected in the text of these terms and conditions and published on this web page. You should check the terms and conditions periodically to ensure that you are aware of and complying with the current version.
The interpretation, construction, effect and enforceability of this agreement and your use of the website shall be governed by English Law, and you and We agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts for the determination of all disputes relating to your use of the website.
Membership
All Chartered IIA members agree to comply with:
- The Code of Professional Conduct
- The International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and
- The CPE policy
Failure to comply may lead to sanctions under the Chartered IIA’s disciplinary code.
Communication preferences
By joining the Chartered IIA you consent to receiving emails directly related to administration of your membership and CPE.
You may select from other communications according to your areas of interest at any time by logging into your online account.
Subscriptions
Your annual membership subscription fee is non-transferable. We reserve the right to refuse admission to membership; if we do so we will refund your annual subscription in full.
Subscriptions are due annually on 1 April for all members other than those who are part of a formal group membership arrangement between their employer and us. Those outside a group membership arrangement will receive email notification of the amount due in March. If payment is not received within one month of the due date, membership will lapse. We then reserve the right to impose a re-instatement fee in addition to the standard subscription.
Refunds
If you renew your membership subscription online, you are entitled to cancel it within seven days and receive a full refund. After this period, your subscription is non-refundable.

Cancellation of subscription or learning registration
Applicants wishing to cancel a learning registration or membership application must do so within 30 days of invoice date. After that date the full invoice amount remains payable.
Events, training courses and workshops
These terms and conditions apply to all our events, workshops, training courses, seminars, dinners and conferences. We use the word ‘event’ to describe all of these.
Invoicing and payment
Payment must be received within 30 days of the invoice being created, or before the event takes place. In order to receive the early bird discount, payment must be received by the Chartered IIA within 30 days of the invoice date.
Cancelling and transfers
You can cancel your booking within ten working days of submission and receive a full refund, provided it isn’t less than ten working days before the event. After this period the following cancellation and transfer fees apply:
Cancel or transfer ten working days or more before the event: 20% fee applies
Cancel or transfer less than ten working days before the event: 100% fee applies
No refunds will be given for non-attendance.
Cancelling an on-demand training course
You can cancel your on-demand training course up to 10 working days from the purchase date and receive a full refund provided the on-demand training course has not been accessed. After the 10 working days, if the on-demand training course has been accessed you will not be entitled to any refund. You will not be able to transfer your on-demand training course to another person or onto another on-demand training course.
Cancellation by the Chartered IIA
We reserve the right to alter published programmes, speakers and venues without prior notice. If the event has to be cancelled altogether, we will notify you up to 10 working days in advance of the event. Our liability is limited to a full refund of the event fee only.
No compensation will be paid for any other costs incurred by the delegate, such as travel or accommodation.
The Chartered IIA accepts no liability if an event is cancelled or postponed for reasons beyond our reasonable control.
Transferring your place to someone else
If you are unable to attend, you can send someone else in your place provided that person meets the entry requirements of the course. Please notify us in advance so that we can update our delegate list. If the replacement delegate is not entitled to attend at the same price (for example if a Chartered IIA member sends a non-member in his or her place) then the difference in fees must be paid.
Liability
The Chartered IIA does not accept responsibility for anyone acting as a result of information or views expressed by speakers. Delegates should take specific advice when dealing with specific situations. Opinions expressed are those of individual speakers and not necessarily those of the Chartered IIA.
Intellectual property
The Intellectual Property Rights in the events are owned by, and shall remain vested in, the Chartered IIA and/or its appointed training provider(s).
Liability and insurance
Our liability to you for any direct losses arising out of an event shall be limited to the fee paid. This does not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you in respect of death or personal injury caused by our negligence and for any matter for which it would be illegal for us to exclude or limit, our liability. The Chartered IIA has public liability insurance for £2 million.
Mediation
In the event of a dispute between the parties mediation will be obtained via the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, 70 Fleet Street, London.
Learning programmes
Learning programmes are any study route by which a designation is achieved: Internal Audit Practitioner, Certified Internal Auditor, or Chartered by Learning.
By registering on a learning programme, you are agreeing to the following statements:
- I have read and agree to abide by the Chartered IIA's Code of Professional Conduct
- I agree to abide by the examination regulations
- I understand that if I am successful in my examination the Chartered IIA reserves the right to publish my name
- I am aware of the need for recent, relevant, and verifiable professional experience to satisfy the full requirement of the learning programme. I accept responsibility for ensuring that I can complete this according to the specifications detailed in Chartered IIA literature
- Until such time as I have completed the learning programme, I am not entitled to use the associated designatory letters.
To undertake study of any of the Chartered IIA learning programmes, membership is a requirement. The Chartered IIA will not provide access to content if the studying member is not a current member. Members should ensure that they complete the administrative processes before the deadlines. Should your membership lapse before you have completed the learning programme, you will not be able to access any support.
Delegates based outside Ireland and the UK may attend Chartered IIA events provided they have access to the CIA Learning System and have successfully applied for the CIA certification with IIA Global.

All deadlines are published on the website, and it is the responsibility of the member to confirm that they are keeping to these deadlines.
To access the CIA Learning System, we may need to provide your name, surname and email address to the publishers of the CIA Learning System. Students and employer sponsored students will be able to produce an invoice from their member portal and the invoice is payable in 30 days. The portal will request a purchase order number which will be quoted on the invoice. The person responsible for payment (either the student, employer, or a third party) must agree to the Terms & Conditions and by booking and creating an invoice all parties agree to be held responsible for payment. Interest will be charged on late payments.
The Chartered IIA reserves the right to alter published programmes, tutors, facilitators, fees or venues without prior notice. In such cases its liability will be restricted to a refund of any course fee paid.
We do not provide employers or sponsoring organisations with updates on any member currently enrolled on any programme unless the employer can secure the agreement of the studying member and we are notified of this in writing by the studying member.
Upon registering for the CIA learning programme you will be issued with the CIA Learning System one week prior to the start of your programme, once the CIA Learning System has been activated you can no longer request a refund.
Registering on the Internal Audit Practitioner and the Certified Internal Auditor does not include the IIA Global enrolment, exam fees, or Chartered IIA membership fees.

Once the course materials are live, no refunds will be considered.
Enrolment will close one week before the course starts and students will be able access the online content. Studies cannot be deferred, but please contact the Chartered IIA Learning team and we will discuss options open to you.

Members enrolling on the Internal Audit Practitioner and the Certified Internal Auditor should familiarise themselves with the IIA Global Candidate Certification handbook. Members enrolling on Chartered by Learning should study the Candidate handbook.
You have three years to complete the Chartered by Learning programme from the date of registering with IIA Global. After the three-year period elapses, you will be automatically deregistered and will be required to register again and restart your studies from the beginning. There are no extensions available.
You are permitted to pause your studies between the cohort study programmes, but you cannot pause the study programme and you are expected to complete it once enrolled.
If, for whatever reason, you cannot complete your studies, then you must contact learning@charterediia.org to discuss your options.
If you cannot complete your studies, and you have already submitted some/all the assignments, then you will need to resubmit assignments when you continue your studies. These assignments are likely to be different as assignments are changed for every cohort.
Chartered by experience
Payment
Payment must be received within 30 days of the invoice being created, and before the assessment takes place.
Cancellation policy, transferrals and refunds
Applicants wishing to cancel their Chartered by Experience assessment must do so within seven days of booking onto an assessment date in order to receive a full refund. After this period, the assessment fee is non-refundable.
In the event that a candidate can no longer attend their Chartered by Experience assessment, they may transfer to an alternative date at the next available session. Candidates must do this within 21 working days of their assessment date. There will be a transfer charge of £300 to cover costs incurred by the Chartered IIA. Candidates may only transfer their booking once.
Professional Conferral
Payment
Payment must be received within 30 days of the invoice being created, and before the assessment takes place.
Eligibility, submissions and timeline
You have 12 months to complete the Assessment for Professional Conferral from the moment you register. However, you only have a total of three years to complete the Chartered Programme and you need to complete your Assessment for Professional Conferral before the three years expire.
We do not offer any extensions on the 12-month period.
You must have completed both Module 1: Strategy (or by exemption) and Module 2: Leadership before you can register on the Assessment for Professional Conferral.
If your Problem Statement does not meet the criteria, then you may fail the assessment. Alternatively, if you cannot demonstrate the five competencies during the assessment then you may also fail.
You will receive a pass or fail grade only, and not a mark.
You must submit your Problem Statement no later than 24 hours after you made the booking.
You have a maximum of six months to book your assessment.
You must submit your assessment documentation consisting of your presentation, accompanying notes, and reflection on the competency matrix no later than seven calendar days before your assessment is set to take place.
Your Assessment for Professional Conferral must be an original piece of work and must not be the same as previously attempted candidates. You will need to differentiate your work if it is too similar or your Problem Statement will not be accepted.
You may not deviate from the Problem Statement once it has been accepted and this should form the basis for your presentation
Cancellation policy, transferrals and refunds
You are unable to cancel or change your assessment date within 14 days of assessment without any charge.
Applicants wishing to cancel their Professional Conferral assessment must do so within seven days of booking onto an assessment date and more than 14 days prior to their assessment in order to receive a full refund. After this period, the assessment fee is non-refundable.
If you need to reschedule the assessment within 14 days of the assessment you can apply to the Chartered IIA through a reasonable adjustment application however this can only be done once free of charge.
Any changes of assessment date without a reasonable adjustment application or a second or more rescheduled date within 14 days of assessment will be charged an admin fee of £150 for each change of date.
